As you all know, we are Piloting the SpringBoard 9th grade series. Often, we find that pacing, assignments, and ideas need to be changed or implemented. When that happens we bring this to the class and discuss the changes. One such change was made this afternoon. We are expected to get through 4 our of 5 units by the end of the year. With the intensity of the pacing and the program, we realized that this is not very realistic. We have decided to focus on 3 of the 5 units, and combine unit 4 with 5 to present poetry and plays at the end of the year.
What does this mean for the students. 1) We have more time to dig deeper into the work. We can really expand the Tim Burton Unit (2a), and dive deep into Unit 3, To Kill A Mocking Bird and a historical investigative unit. PleaT=se note that this does not mean we are cutting back on the quality of work, infact, it means just the opposit. We are going to be able to really focus on the writing process and the analytical essay.
Currently students are turning in their Creative Short Story rough drafts to the google classroom tonight or tomorrow night. With the extra time Mr. W and I decided to allow the students to work on developing their stories. The rough drafts are now due Dec 30, 3016 and the final draft is due January 10 or 11, 2017.
